It has been some 15+ years since I have really followed any “professional wrestling” at all. I remember arguing with my father about the authenticity of the wrestling moves being performed. I guess as a kid I just wanted to believe that Hulk Hogan was super human in strength & could over come a beat down just by getting a focused look on his face and shaking in a seizure like fashion. But it did not take long for me to call “bullshit” on the whole thing & lose interest all together. Flash forward to the present and now I am blessed with two sons who have taken a liking to the antics of the WWE and all its glory. But not being satisfied with just watching the mayhem on television, they have more than once left each other crying after trying some stupid move on each other. I am just thankful neither of them has broken any bones with their dumbass behavior. So knowing that WWE wrestling is 99% acting & 1% steroid induced rage, I should no better than to set myself up for any “code breakers,” “knee drops,” or” Spine busters,” right? Well tell that to my aching back today. For some insane reason I allowed a simple task of standing on our new tempurpedic mattress to “break in the cells” turn into an all out death match last night! Before I knew it my oldest son & his full 100+ pounds is airborne and managed to land square on my lower back with what I assume was a knee drop of death. As if anyone getting a knee to the back is not bad enough, I am fortunate enough to be sporting two steel rods in my lower spine thanks to a stupid dirt bike accident when I was 20 years old. So daily back pain is something I have learned to just endure, but with his one perfectly performed move, my son has brought me a whole new world of pain to enjoy. Thank God for the new bed, since it allowed me to at least sleep last night and by the morning light the numbness in my leg that had resulted from T’s best impression of “Captain Insano” was all but gone. I take heart in knowing that he actually did feel bad afterwards, and his extra tight hug confirmed that. So the lessen here is: 1)Big T has a crazy good knee drop, and 2) I am too old to even challenge my boys at a no rules, tap out to win, wrestling match. I will stick to activities more age appropriate…. Checkers anyone?
