Kisses are like tears...the only ones that are real are the ones that you can't hold back.
Sprechen sie Deutsche?
German is a language that I love to hate. I took 2 years of German while in high school back in the late 80's, then another year at The Ohio State University my final year attending classes there. All of this and the best I can do is recite the numbers and say "Wie alt bist du?" or "Du stehe mich auf!" And I am not sure that either of those are correct. None the less I still hold out hope that someday I will have the time to invest in learning to speak in fluent German. When I look at the little bit I know about my family history, I know that I have about 1/4 Cherokee Indian & 1/4 German & 1/2 mutt. So I try to get closer to my German roots as much as I can. Although my wife has mastered the English language and can butcher Spanish with the best of them, she know zero German. I can't even get any Gaelic out of her, even though she claims some Irish decent. I have a sneaking suspicion that she is more Polish than Irish, but would never hold that against her. That was not meant to be a bad joke, or an attack on her intellect, as I consider her my superior when intellect is being evaluated. She just has a maiden name that seems more suspiciously Polish than Irish... None the less, she does not speak a lick of German, and therefore is no help in my goal to someday speak the language of my ancestors. If anyone out there can point me in the direction of a good learning tool for the German language, please speak up. Until then I will continue to butcher the language with the little bit of knowledge I have from the few classes I have had the opportunity to take. I just ask that any German speaking people forgive me in advance!
